Teambuilding

Ropes Courses

Frost Valley YMCA has multiple ropes course elements ranging from beginner to expert in difficulty. The ropes elements challenge participants to build their communication and leadership skills and is a valuable part of the teambuilding experience. All programs on the courses are guided by caring, experienced staff trained in character education. Below are descriptions of our different ropes elements.

The Flying Squirrel element focuses on trust and group accountability. One participant is harnessed and attached to a rope and pulley and raised off the ground by the rest of the group members on the “pull team.”

The Giant Swing element focuses on trust and group accountability, just as the flying squirrel listed above.  The participant is harnessed in and attached to the swing, a pull team (fellow participants) work together to raise the flier to his/her desired height.  The flier releases the pull chord to take a swing ride down!

Leap of Faith element focuses on goal-setting as participants are harnessed and climb up the trunk of a tree to a platform where they jump as far as they can to tag an adjustable ball.

The Y Shaped Climbing Tower is a 50 foot tower that has 7 different sides to climb with ropes, harnesses, helmets and synthetic rock holds.  Participants are belayed by trained staff that help guide them through the different climbing routes.

Our dual Zip Line is located at the top of our 50 foot climbing tower. Wearing a helmet, harness and pulley, participants zip across a 100-yard steel line with a partner, an exhilarating ride!

The Giant’s Ladder is a suspended progressive height rope and wood ladder that is traversed by pairs of participants who work together to reach the top.

Our High Ropes Course is set at a height of 25 feet in a canopy of trees where participants can choose to traverse the Pirates Crossing (harnessed in and climb the rigging), the Postman’s Walk (harnessed in and walk a tight wire with a guide), or the Swinging Log (harnessed in and walk across a mobile log to test your balance).

Low Ropes Course is designed to encourage team-work, problem solving, and personal growth through physical activities that require full group planning and participation. For example, the multi-vine is where participants traverse a wire while being spotted by fellow group members with some help from hanging rope lines.
