Environmental Stewardship

Frost Valley YMCA is distinguished by its commitment to Environmental Science. With 6,000 natural acres of sustainably-managed forest, it provides the ideal setting for Environmental Education Programs that meet New York and New Jersey learning standards.

Its location at the headwaters of the source of clean drinking water for 9 million New York City residents is strategically important for both demonstrating and teaching the importance of environmental stewardship in sustainable forestry and water quality protection. By keeping this land out of development, Frost Valley’s provides vital habitat for species needing large, non-unfragmented forest blocks in New York State, such as the wood thrush.

Natural resources at Frost Valley YMCA are managed using best management practices to water quality high. This allows Frost Valley to meet its core value of land stewardship and provide an “outdoor classroom” for 15,000 school-age students that visit each year.
