Camp
Henry Hird, or “The Hird”, was established in 1962. It is filled with challenges
for our teens in programs that shape leadership and initiative. The focus in
The Hird is to foster an appreciation for one's self-worth and the worth of
others.
In addition to the daily schedule, teens choose from a wide variety
of activities that include extended backpacking overnights, service projects,
big brother/big sister events, and high excitement components such as high ropes,
the zip line, the flying squirrel and more! The end result: Hird campers exceed
far beyond their own expectations developing self confidence and friendships
that allow them to become role models for our camp population and leaders of
tomorrow.
While
the activities and events are truly amazing, the real summer camp experience
is marked by the development of lifelong friendships in the cabins. Village
assignments are coordinated by grade and are split into brother and sister villages.
The progression is Sacky/Hemlock, Tacoma/Lenape, Windsong/Pac and finally Sycamore
for our 15 year old teen leaders.
