Which cabin/village will I be staying in?
Cabin groups are the same throughout the camp program. All campers are placed in groups of eight with two staff members assigned to the cabin group. Lodging varies from group to group. Some campers will live in independent cabins grouped together in clusters to make up a village. Some campers will be housed in larger lodges where multiple cabin groups live with a shared common area that make up one village. All campers have their own bunk and storage area for their comfort. Villages at camp are made up of cabin groups that are the same age. Frost Valley’s program is age specific and progressive in nature. Therefore the grouping of campers by age is required.

Making new friends is an essential part of the camp experience and cabin assignments are the key to creating a positive camp environment. Frost Valley YMCA places campers in cabin groups based on the following criteria:

  • An exclusive mutual request made by 2 campers who are the same age.
  • Age (less than 12 months apart)
Camper’s grade is not considered in cabin assignments.
Campers requesting to be together that are more than 12 months apart may be honored but the older child must be placed in the younger cabin assignment.
Frost Valley YMCA will make every effort to honor special requests for cabin mates but due to the amount of campers registered per session we do not guarantee any placements.

Can I be in a cabin with my best friend, relative, etc?
We will do our best to honor mutual exclusive requests. However, there are many other factors involved in cabin placement (see above).

Who will I have as counselors?
There will be two staff for each cabin of 8 campers. We are currently hiring staff from all over the country and the world. They are screened through an extensive interview process, provide three references, and are placed in positions that match their individual skill levels and interests.

How many campers are in a cabin?
There are eight campers in each cabin group.

Are there storage spaces in the cabins?
Yes. Space varies for different cabins and lodges. Each camper will have a cubby for personal items and a place to hang jackets, towels, etc. A trunk or large duffel bag are generally good choices for a space to store clothing while at camp.

The cabins and lodges are heated, have electricity (and outlets), hot running water, are equipped with either flushing or composting toilets, and have screened windows. Not exactly roughing-it!!!!

Sports and Games is always changing, always active and always a chance for campers to try something new.

Feeling Good may include cooking in the Incredible Edible kitchen, taking a dance and movement class, or having a cabin discussion about body image and the media. It is the period of the day that focuses on our Wellness theme.

Specialties are varied for each age group and illustrate the creativity and skills of this summer's staff. Popular specialties include Photography, Radio, Arts and Crafts, and Adventure Programs. Camper's will choose their own specialties when they arrive at camp (with the exception of horseback riding which parents must take care of when registering).
