Frost
Valley YMCA’s summer camp unites traditional camping with innovative programs,
focusing on building and maintaining healthy lifestyles and reflects the interests
and needs of a dynamic camp community. Our camp community
is an exciting mix of cultures, backgrounds, and abilities. And most importantly,
the camping community participates in activities designed to build trust, teamwork,
and mutual understanding. The Catskill Mountains are famous for their
pristine beauty and natural resources. Frost Valley YMCA’s 6,000 acres
of forest, field, meadow, and streams, make it an ideal location for the ultimate
summer camp experience. Each morning, campers and staff awake surrounded by
the magnificent beauty of the valley. It’s the perfect setting to foster
memories that will last a lifetime.
Camp Wawayanda offers younger campers a program based on skill development, guided discovery, and a choice of amazing activities that foster healthy outdoor fun. Trained counselors provide an inclusive, non-competitive environment that encourages participation, teamwork, a sense of self-worth and a "give it a go!" attitude.
Camp Henry Hird, a co-educational program at Frost Valley, challenges older campers with programs that shape leadership and initiative, and offers teens a wider variety of activities that include extended backpacking overnights; service projects; big brother/big sister events; and high excitement components like High Ropes, the Zipline, and the Dangle Duo.
Frost Valley YMCA campers participate
in a wide variety of activities. While at the waterfront, campers can swim,
enjoy themselves on the 25-foot water trampoline; and go boating, kayaking,
or canoeing. Ashore, there are an infinite number of Sports and Games for the
playing, which are both innovative and imaginative. Sporting activities include:
archery, fishing, and high ropes! Wellness themes are addressed in the Feeling
Good segments, which can include: dance and movement classes; focus groups on
body image and the Media; and cooking in the Incredible Edible Kitchen. Specialties
programs are frequently offered throughout summer session, and usually include:
Photography, Radio Broadcasting, Arts and Crafts, and Adventure. Campers are
free to choose their own specialties once they arrive at camp.
