2008 SUMMER HORSE PROGRAMS
____________________________________________
The goal of the Equestrian Center is to teach participants the fundamentals of riding while developing skills, coordination and confidence. The equestrian staff is comprised of experienced horse lovers from all over the world, eager to share their knowledge with campers. This facility has over forty exceptional horses, three arenas, a large barn, and acres of open fields leading to miles of trails. The program is accredited by the Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA) and upholds the highest safety standards. The five different equestrian options listed here are offered in 2008.
Horseback Riding
Campers join our qualified instructors for five one-hour riding blocks to work on horsemanship skills in the arena and out on the trail. Riders are grouped by skill level and matched with horses that will enable them to progress throughout the week. This option is open to all ages and skill levels in Sessions 1-4.
Trailblazers
Head out on the trail for a horseback riding adventure in this one-week program designed to combine a love for horses and the outdoors. Riders spend the first day in camp planning and meeting their horse companions, while the next four days are spent riding and camping with experienced wranglers. Learn how to set up camp, care for your horse on the trail and cook on a campfire while you sleep under the stars, bond with your horse, and enjoy the freedom of life on the trail! Riding Requirements: control at the walk and trot. Open to ages 11 and up, Sessions 4-A and 4-B.
Ranch Camp
This half-day option is open to everyone regardless of prior experience. Campers are assigned to a horse and placed in a lesson group based on their level, then spend mornings on riding skills such as bareback, English, Western, and centered riding techniques. The program includes trail rides, lessons, and horse care, with time in the afternoon for hiking, arts & crafts, climbing, and all-camp traditions. Stable management, tacking, veterinary care, color and breed identification, and horse behavior are also covered. The session ends with themed rides and a horse show. Open to all ages and skill levels Sessions 1-4.
Ranch Leaders
The Ranch Leader option is for young women who have intermediate riding experience (at minimum). This program offers training in how to teach riding lessons, guide trail rides, and work at the barn. Leaders shadow our riding staff to develop the leadership skills essential to working with children and horses. The emphasis is on decision-making skills, effective instruction, leading by example, and working as a team. Riding staff mentors also help individuals improve their riding skills. Riding Requirements: control at the walk and trot; canter. Open to grades 8 and up, Session 3.
Wrangler-In-Training
During two separate four-week intensive horsemanship programs, our Wrangler-In-Training (WIT) program motivates campers to achieve the best in riding and teaching abilities. Prospective Wranglers are selected for Sessions 1&2 and 3&4 through an application and interview process. For information, email Horses@FrostValley.org
