Farm Camp

Wellness

Campers at the farm gain a unique opportunity to begin learning about environmental stewardship. Through the daily chores on the farm, they participate in the care and harvest of food, they are introduced to the importance of the land care required to produce the fresh vegetables that appear on the table at meal times. Food that travels the fewest miles to the table has the greatest nutritional value, another teachable moment reinforced by everyday life at Farm Camp. Taking an active role on the farm requires physical exercise and the development of concern for how humans fit into the larger environment, a long tradition and a core value of Frost Valley YMCA.

The Frost Valley Educational Farm is separate from Main Camp, with its own dining and nursing facilities. A licensed RN or EMT and Wilderness First Responder live on-site and are trained to treat campers’ needs for medication, emergency care, and general health. Our medical staff is also in close contact with the Guenther Family Wellness Center at Main Camp, expanding our ability to isolate children with potentially contagious infections. Our kitchen is stocked with healthy foods and a dedicated staff who play an important role in the overall health of campers, providing a well balanced and tasty diet and can accommodate food allergies and most special dietary needs.
