Through expert-led daily hikes, experience beauty and nature in Catskill Park — part of New York’s “forever wild” Forest Preserve. Join our naturalists for active adventures investigating and interpreting the dynamic natural history of the area as you encounter meadows, ponds, cascading waterfalls, and seemingly endless mountain trails throughout pristine landscapes. Road Scholar, the not-for-profit dedicated to lifelong learning all around the world formerly known as Elderhostel, offers adventurous educational programs and weekend retreats at Frost Valley YMCA’s East Valley Ranch. Try our high ropes course, navigate the hiking trails, and learn to read the stars at night (ages 12+). East Valley Ranch, just 12 miles from Main Camp, offers both a bed-and-breakfast style lodge that sleeps up to 35 guests, as well as Mongolian yurts that sleep an additional 60 guests. East Valley Ranch has its own dining room, program facilities, and staff who are eager to help your troop have an amazing experience this year!

Enjoy the breathtaking fall colors, make crisp apple cider, and learn about Catskill native flora and fauna while working toward the Naturalist Legacy Badge. Our Main Camp offers availability for up to 650 guests, easily accommodating large councils yet also providing a personalized experience for individual troops. Each weekend as you work towards badges, you will also have access to our camp favorites – climbing, archery, arts & crafts and seasonal favorites such as apple cider making, canoeing, cross-country skiing, and snow tubing.

These courses are designed to inspire fathers and sons and mothers and daughters to get out in to the back country and have a great adventure BGSA style. Techniques taught will include: how to build and light a fire how to navigate by day and night with no map or compass survival knife skills, stalking and making and setting traps foraging for natural wild food. Bring your recyclable materials (soda bottles, plastic crates, etc.) and design your vessel with our assistance and available supplies. Finally, test your craft in the regatta on Biscuit Brook! Prizes will be given for the most creative, most likely to stay afloat, most likely to sink, and more!

These weekends give families the chance to try a wide range of our best activities. Venture to our educational farm to meet our animals, tour the gardens, and taste fresh produce. Hike beautiful trails, challenge yourself on our ropes course, ride horses and much more. These weekends are a great way for families to try a lot of different activities sure to please everyone.

This weekend, learn the art of quilting, or perfect your craft, with the help of our expert quilting instructors. Come join us for other classes, such as knitting, spinning and weaving in addition to our traditional quilting programs. Enjoy deliciously prepared meals, including hot soups, two salad bars, and vegan options. Make new friends in an atmosphere that celebrates camaraderie.
