Frost Valley YMCA’s Raptor Center is a New York State and federally licensed raptor site. The center houses 6 permanently injured birds (Red Tailed Hawks, Barred Owls, and a Great Horned Owl) and trained staff focus on the care, handling and feeding of these residents.
The Frost Valley Raptor Center serves as a means to educate people on human impact/influence, food chains, predator-prey relationships, native wildlife of the Catskills, and habit conservation. It also allows guests and students to view these beautiful birds at close proximity.
Approximately 15,000 guests visit the Raptor Center annually as a weekend guest or weekday school group The Raptor Center has been an exciting addition to the curriculum of our wildlife ecology, forest ecology, and night awareness classes.
Our facility is not a rehabilitation center, but a home for birds that have already had their injuries evaluated by trained professionals. Each of these birds has an injury that could not be fully rehabilitated and keeps them from being able to hunt and survive in the wild. The most common injuries to raptors are collisions with cars or power lines.
How you can help: In order to keep up with the cost of food and facility improvements, Frost Valley offers the chance to adopt a bird, or make a donation to the raptor center fund. Call our main office for more information
