The studies performed by USGS and Frost Valley YMCA's Streamside Classroom, provide invaluable information on pressing environmental issues and problems such as acid rain, nitrogen saturation in northeastern forests and global change. The Frost Valley YMCA Streamside Classroom models the watershed studies that continue to be performed at Frost Valley by the USGS. The Streamside Classroom is the result of an educational partnership between the USGS and Frost Valley YMCA that was grant-funded in 1995. The classroom offers students and teachers the opportunity to study a watershed's systems in their natural setting. An integrated curriculum is used to investigate how stream hydrology and chemistry; geology; ecology; and, forest, freshwater, and wildlife ecologies interact in a watershed.
