Hall of Fame

Every year Frost Valley hosts a Gala for alumni, supporters, and friends to come together and be reminded of our purpose here: To put Judeo/Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all.  This year’s Annual Gala, held at the Newark Club, was full of familiar faces and fellowship.  As it is our 50th Anniversary in the Valley, Frost Valley inducted three Frost Valley icons into our first ever Hall of Fame.  This year’s inductees are: Halbe Brown, Woodruff (Woody) English, and Eva Gottscho.  Please join us in welcoming them into our Hall of Fame.  For more information and pictures, you can check out Al’s blog: http://frostvalleyalumni.blogspot.com/2008/05/hall-of-fame.html

NYC Alumni Kick-Off the Summer

Summer time is here again!  Each year to celebrate, a group of locals meet up in NYC to remember great times and fun had at Frost Valley, and help raise money to send kids to camp.  If you would like to do the same in your city, please contact Melissa Pauls at alumni@frostvalley.org
The Summer Kick-Off in NYC will be held at Kabin, on 2nd Ave between 5th and 6th.  Drink specials will start at 7 PM, and you must be there before 8 to continue to get the deals all night.  Come and re-connect with old friends, see people you haven’t seen since moomba and have a drink with your old counselors/campers. It’s all pretty funny.  Questions, Thoughts, Advice – Caroline Donohue / carolinedonohue@gmail.com / 551.265.3445.

Adventure Need Alumni's Help

Greetings from the Frost Valley YMCA Adventure Department!

This summer is shaping up to be one of our biggest in the last 10 years with over 140 kids going on Adventure Trips.  As the Trip program continues its re-growth, we are looking for alumni who would like to volunteer 2 weeks of their time as a Trip Leader on one of our Habitat for Humanity—New Orleans trips.  Currently, we are looking for males 21 years of age or older to help during Sessions 2 (July 13-25) and 3 (July 27-August 8). Alumni would co-lead a trip with an experienced Trip Leader.  As a co-leader, you would be responsible for a group of 10 teens (ages 14-17) for a 12-day period.  Duties include supervision of teens, driving (12-passenger van), managing the trip budget, completing paperwork, and participating in the activities alongside the group members.  Sleeping arrangements are on the floor of the East Jefferson Family YMCA.  Meals will include some grocery shopping for breakfasts and lunches and most dinners will be out at a restaurant.

If you are interested in applying for this opportunity or would like more information, please contact Kevin Terrell, Adventure & Trips Director, at (845) 985-2291 ext. 265 or kterrell@FrostValley.org.  To see itineraries for all of our Adventure Trips, check out the Adventure Programs page at http://www.frostvalley.org/for_parents/camp_programs/teen_adventure.php

Volunteer Work Weekends

Thank you to all the wonderful volunteers who made April’s Volunteer Work Weekend a success.  We sanded tables, got Summer Camp updated on filing, picked up trash, cleared trails, weeded and up-rooted the butterfly garden, prepared a mailing, and shared some smiles with s’mores.  Again, a big thank you to Phyllis and Julia Caputo, Mary Ann and Danielle Disick, Caroline Donohue, Susanna Esposito, Morris Gold, Kathy Haven, Meryl Kaye, Alexi Mantsios, Debbie and Tyler Moree, Adrian Quinn, John Roccanova, David Sacker, and Diane Sacker.
You can give back to Frost Valley too!  We have two more weekends this year—Sept. 19-21 and Nov. 7-9.  To sign up or for more information about volunteering, please email volunteer@FrostValley.org
