Habitat New Orleans

itinerary:

Ages 14-17

July 13 to July 25 &

July 27 to August 8

$1950

*We will be sleeping on the floor at the East Jefferson Family YMCA.  The facility includes restrooms, showers, air conditioning, a swimming pool, and a teen center.

Volunteer Service – 5 days

You will have the opportunity to assist New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity as they help deserving families rebuild their homes and lives.  Work can include construction, painting, landscaping, and anything else that a house might need.  We often meet the families as they work side-by-side with you to build their house.  Earn up to 40 hours of community service alongside your new friends.

Aquarium of the Americas – 1 day

Hailed as one of the best aquariums in the United States, the Aquarium of the Americas is home to sea otters, rockhopper penguins, and a rare white alligator.  We will also get a chance to see a show in the IMAX theater.

City Park – 1 day

Home to Storyland, athletic facilities, and the Botanical Gardens, City Park is an important part of life in New Orleans.  With a limited staff, they rely heavily on volunteers to assist them in their post-Katrina recovery efforts.

Local Flavor – 2 days

We always leave a couple of days open so that you can choose activities that interest the group.  Options include the Voodoo Museum, Audubon Zoo, and Woldenberg Riverfront Park.  Come experience Cajun life in the Crescent City.

Traveling Circus – 2 days

That’s what we will look like on our travel days to and from New Orleans.  This time is very valuable to the group as it gives them some time to get to know each other on the way down and catch up on their reading or sleep on the way back.

Hudson Gorge Rafting – 1 day

One of our days off from Habitat, we will travel to the Hudson River Gorge for whitewater rafting.  Enjoy class I – III rapids as experienced guides take you down the longest stretch of whitewater in New York State.

Keene Valley Climbing – 1 day

Lace up climbing shoes and tie in for a day of rock climbing in the Adirondacks.  Professional guides will show us to the best climbing spots in the Keene Valley area and teach us all the basics.
