Rocks ‘n Ropes

itinerary:

Ages 12-15

August 10 to 17

$850

Safety First – 1 day

Our first day will be spent at Frost Valley.  We will learn about knots, belay technique, and safety gear.  Then we will put our new found skills to the test at our 50-foot climbing tower.

Peterskill – 2 days

For our first two days on “natty” rock, we will travel to Peterskill climbing area.  Known for its accessibility and single pitch climbs, this gem will provide us plenty of opportunity to work on our climbing technique and hone our belay skills.

Trapps – 2 days

Prepare to climb an internationally-known crag frequented by some of the best climbers in the world.  Experienced climbing guides will show us the way as we tackle classics such as the Horseman, Laurel, and Ken’s Crack.  There is no better place to satisfy your climbing appetite than the Gunks.

Catskill Fun – 1 day

Let’s our arms a day off and enjoy some local flavor!  Options include tubing the Esopus, hiking a Catskill peak, and visiting a skate park.  We’ll also try some mountain boarding and sleep out at Pete’s Pavilion.

West Virginia Whitewater itinerary:

Ages 13-16

July 27 to August 8

$1700

High Adventure – 2 days

Belay technique and safety are on the agenda as we prepare for 2 days of high adventure challenges.  After a morning of teambuilding games, push your limits during an afternoon at a 55-foot high Alpine Tower.  Spend the second day at a rock face learning climbing technique and rappelling.

Wild Whitewater – 3 days

Enjoy stunning scenery on two world-class rivers, the New and the Gauley.  Whether you are working together on the 14-foot raft or making your own way on a ducky (inflatable kayak), experienced guides show the way.  As we navigate class I-V rapids, you will also get to experience ducky games, raft wars, and surfing West Virginia style!

Mountain Biking – 1 day

Mountain streams and sloping trails will lead us down to the New River Gorge National River.  Stops at Thurmond Visitor Center and scenic overlooks make this day one-of-a-kind.

Lost World Caverns – 1 day

Experienced guides take us underground to explore the natural wonders of a cave system.

Road Tripping – 4 Days

It’s a long drive to West Virginia, so we break it up – 2 days each way.  This allocates us more time to set up camp properly, cook our own meals, and enjoy some time relaxing at the end of each day.  The bus ride also brings the group together as they get to know each other and allows people time to catch up on their reading or sleep.

Maine Coast

itinerary:

Ages 13-16

August 10 to 22

$1600

Carriage Roads – 2 days

We will rent bikes in Bar Harbor and enjoy biking on the carriage roads of Acadia National Park.  At over 45 miles, the carriage road system was created by John D. Rockefeller, Jr. in the early 1900’s for motor-free transportation around Mount Desert Island.  Now bicyclists, walkers, and horses are the only traffic that navigate these beautiful paths.

Otter Cliffs Climbing – 2 days

Most places you go rock climbing, you start at the bottom and work your way up.  On the Maine coast, you begin your climb by rappelling down the cliff, sometimes starting with the ocean on your heels.  Experienced climbing guides will show us the best spots to climb, including Otter Cliffs.

Echo Lake – 1 day

Whether you want to sit on the beach or take a scenic hike, Echo Lake is the spot for a relaxing day.  We will ride the free shuttle to the lake to spend our last full day on Mount Desert Island before heading out on our final adventure.

Coastal Cruising – 4 days

The Rams, Big Waas, and Hardwood Islands are all possible destinations during our 4-day sea kayak trip.  We will be joined by certified Maine kayak guides as we navigate a few of Maine’s 2000+ coastal islands.  Camping on the islands, we will learn about paddling techniques, navigation, and some of the biggest tides in the world.

On the Road Again – 2 days

Our bus ride to Acadia will help the group bond and get to know each other.  The ride back is often quiet as everyone catches up on missed sleep or reading.
