Wilderness Skill Builder
itinerary:
Ages 11-13
June 29 to July 6; July 13 to 20
$745 |
Backpacking – 3 days/nights
Our first afternoon and evening will be spent setting up camp and getting to know each other. Our second day will bring on navigation as we begin our hike over Wildcat Mountain. Cooking, fire safety, and campsite selection are skills of the day as we prepare for another night out. Our final day on trail will see us back at Frost Valley’s Main Camp for an afternoon of canoe practice.
Canoeing – 3 days/2 nights
We’ll head to the Delaware Water Gap after breakfast to begin our canoe journey. Paddling techniques, mid-water rescues, and navigation are the skills we will practice over the next 3 days. We will find campsites along the river as we make our way south.
High Adventure – 1 day
Our final full day at Frost Valley will be spent challenging ourselves in a new direction, up. Take advantage of our 50’ climbing tower and multiple high ropes elements as we conquer fears and celebrate our accomplishments.

Canoeing – 3 days/2 nights (tenting @ backcountry campsites)
Island campsites, tranquil creek passages, and some of the best paddling in the East await you during 3 days of canoeing. The Adirondacks are known for canoe routes to suite every ability level. During the day we will get plenty of practice with canoe strokes as we switch to a different backcountry site each night. Plus we’ll take time to look at mid-water rescue techniques and portaging.
Upper Hudson River – day trip (tenting @ front country campground)
The Upper Hudson River is the premier destination for whitewater rafting in the Adirondacks. Experienced guides will help you navigate class I-III rapids down 17 miles of the “Grand Daddy” of all NY rivers.
Backpacking – 3 days/2 nights (tenting @ backcountry campsites)
Marvel at the views of this 6-million acre park that is the largest publicly protected area in the contiguous United States. We’ll be moving to a different backcountry campsite every day as we hone our navigation, fire building, water purification, and low-impact camping skills.
Keene Valley Rock – 2 days/3 nights (tenting @ front country campground)
There are so many climbable areas in the Adirondacks, some are still undiscovered. Professional climbing guides will join us for 2 days as we climb the best rock in the Keene Valley area. We’ll be staying at Sharp Bridge Campground (NYSDEC) during this time.
Road Tripping – 2 Days
Half of the fun is getting there (and back)! Our initial bus ride brings the group together as they get to know each other. The ride back to Frost Valley allows people time to catch up on their reading or sleep. Plus we get to enjoy beautiful scenery and listen to some music.
