3-D Archery Competition, Pig Roast at Frost Valley YMCA
CLARYVILLE, NY -
A 3-D Archery Competition and Pig Roast will be held Saturday, July 22 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at Frost Valley YMCA in Claryville, NY.
Participants will compete in four categories: Youth, Traditional, Competitor and Pro. Trophies will be given to the top scoring shooter in each category.
The 3-D competition course is a half-mile loop trail through woods and fields with an interesting variety of terrain and natural habitat types. The targets are lifelike McKenzie high density foam with imprinted scoring rings. Frost Valley has 15 different animals such as deer, bear, turkey, antelope, boar, beaver, etc. positioned in natural settings. Six new targets are being added. The targets will be moved around for future shoots so that the course will always be different.
The 3-D Archery Course was created for use by Frost Valley's Natural Resources Sporting Membership and was introduced at the organization's first annual Family Outdoor Sporting Weekend. Representatives of Gander Mountain sporting goods served as trainers at that event. It is anticipated that Gander Mountain personnel will also offer training at the third annual Sporting Weekend on September 15-17, according to Michael Larison, Natural Resources director.
The Pig Roast will run from noon-2 p.m. Also on the menu will be salad, a baked potato, corn on the cob, baked beans, lemonade, iced tea and cake.
The advance entry fee (which includes the Pig Roast) is $10 per person or $6 for youths 14 and under and Frost Valley Natural Resources members. The entry fee at the gate is $12 for all ages. Reservations and prepayment are recommended. The number of competitors will be limited. There is no age restriction but all participants must bring their own bow and arrows.
Established in 1901 as one of the nation's first summer camps, Frost Valley YMCA is located in the heart of the Catskill Mountains and provides four seasons of outdoor, experiential and educational opportunities. Frost Valley YMCA is a 6,000-acre facility offering summer camping for children, environmental education, year-round activities for families and conference and retreat facilities for groups and businesses.
