Nice to Meet Cha!

7 Years ago this June, I began my very first summer as a day camp counselor in Michigan.  If you had asked me at the beginning of that summer what I wanted to be when I graduated college I would have told you a broadcast journalist.  If you had asked me at the end, I would have told you that I wanted to be a director at a summer camp.

After studying for a few years in college, an internship requirement brought me to Frost Valley to be the Assistant Program Director.  I learned so much that summer, including that I wanted to stay at FV for as long as possible!  After three summers working with Frost Valley’s summer program department, I am embarking on a new and exciting journey – one that I set out to take 7 years ago.

I was told once that ‘with summer camp we have the ability to create our own little utopia,’ we’re able to change lives for the better – through creating friendships and instilling values.  I truly believe this.  I am so proud to introduce myself to you as the new Director of Camp Wawayanda at Frost Valley YMCA.  -Megan Lawrence

Summer’s Almost Here!

 Hey Everyone At Home,

SUMMER’S ALMOST HERE!  I’m getting very excited to meet all of our new families and to see all of our returning families again.  In just a few short weeks all of our staff will be returning, the buses and cars will be pulling in with eager campers and maybe, by then, the rain will have finally stopped.  We still have some openings in a few of our programs, so if you hear of anyone still interested in registering, send them my way.

On a side note, something new you’ll see this year in the adventure realm are brand new patches!  Our resident campers started receiving patches two years ago, and this year all of our specialty programs will be joining in on the fun.   We have just finished the design for our Adventure Village and Adventure Trip patch.  Each year a camper comes here to Frost Valley, they receive a patch with the number of years they have attended.

See y’all soon!

Sincerely,

Amanda

Adventure Director

Rocket Launch

We’ve had some beautiful weather here this weekend, and a number of guests had the opportunity to build and launch a model rocket!  Rocket building is one of our more frequent weekend activities, and is always a guest favorite.  With perfect weather and early morning sun, it was a great day for everyone to watch their creation soar into the sky.

Even if you don’t end up building your own rocket, guests often end up stopping by just to watch others launch their own.  While it can be great to watch a rocket shoot up into the air, it is also quite entertaining to watch the people on the ground trying to follow the trail of smoke into the sky!

With the sun so bright, one can’t but help putting their hands up in front of them
